DEEP RELIEF CHANNEL–Eliminating unwanted pressures

The progressive relief channel, which deepens towards the rear, leads to an opening through the saddle shell. This construction combines all of the advantages of a cut-out saddle without the potential disadvantages. This design gives the saddle shell more forgiveness as well as specifically relieves perineal pressures. Too much pressure in this area often leads to discomfort and numbness in the genital area.

ORTHOCELL^®-PADS–Even better than gel

The new OrthoCell^® material helps you to achieve your best performance without any complaints. These inlays, which are more durable and lighter than gel, ensure the best pressure distribution and provide the highest rebound force. This means they follow the movements of the pelvis with every turn of the crank, but return to their starting position very quickly.

ORTHOPEDIC FOAM–Comfortable and durable

The orthopedic foam is especially ergonomic for mountain biking, but still extremely durable. With the addition of OrthoCell^® inlays, the pressure of the bony structures is distributed much better by increasing the rebound force and dissipating vibrations.

ANTI-FRICTION SIDE FLANKS–Less friction more movement

For an additional benefit of comfort, we have added anti-friction side flanks to the SM-E Mountain saddle. This feature reduces the friction of your thighs on the saddle while pedaling resulting in less friction and more freedom of movement.

Men’s Health

The Ergon development team dove into intensive research on the topic of men’s health. In cycling, the main complaints come from the saddle. For men, an improperly fit saddle can cause too much pressure on the highly sensitive perineal are which can lead to both temporary to long lasting health issues and discomforts. Through extensive development and analysis of MRI and CT scans, numerous prototypes and test rides, the SM Enduro Comp Men was created to alleviate perineal pressures while supporting the rider’s performance needs.

More freedom of movement

Compared to women, the male pelvis tends to be less flexible. This means that men sit more upright on the saddle and put more of their weight distribution on their sit bones. Therefore the transition area between the rear of the saddle and the saddle nose can be kept narrow (Y-shape). This gives the legs more space to pedal.

Male and Female pelvic differences

In contrast to the female anatomy, the male sit bones are more narrow and where the two sides of the pelvis come together in the front is much higher. This results in more pressure being distributed on the male’s sit bones vs. a broader area of sit bones and pubic bones in women. We have taken this significant difference between male and female anatomy into consideration during saddle development.

Made for every racing position

The shape of the SM-Enduro series accommodates for frequent and dynamic changes of seat position and seat height. The result is a saddle that effectively relieves and reduces pressure in many different riding positions encountered while riding demanding terrain.

The right size

The shape and size of the saddle must match the distance between the rider’s sit bones.

Since the pelvic bones taper forward in a v-shape, the saddle must be able to provide a sufficiently large contact surface for the bony structures in different seating positions. The saddle widths are chosen so that the usable seat surface corresponds to the distance between the sit bones.

The more bent forward a rider sits, the further forward the sit bones touch the saddle.
